Wemindji Telecommunication Association

Wemindji’s radio station (CHPH FM 99.7 & 92.5) have been in operation since April 5, 1984. Over the past 30 years we have developed all of our current programs in response to community needs and suggestions.

Our mandate is to serve the people of Wemindji in particular and Eeyou Istchee more generally with Cree language programming, up-to-date information, discussions and entertainment. We aim to maintain our language, strengthen our culture, and instill pride in our identity through our programming. Our work upholds the Vision the Statement of the Cree Nation of Wemindji.

The radio is intended to inform the community in general of what is happening on a day to day basis at the local level as well as what is happening in the other communities, especially at the political level. More importantly, the radio is an essential means for informing the general public if an emergency should arise.
